AI answers for hair salons

Clients ask AI for a salon by specialism: curly cuts, balayage, Afro hair, men's fades, bridal styling. Those answers draw on booking platforms and review sites as well as salon websites, so a salon whose services, prices and stylists' specialisms are spelled out consistently across those places is far easier to recommend than one with a booking button and a gallery.

What customers ask AI

Typical questions, in customers' own words. None of them names a business, which is the point: whoever the answer names is who the customer calls.

  • “Which salon in Leeds is best for curly hair cuts?”

  • “Who does good balayage in Manchester and what does it cost?”

  • “Salon in Atlanta that specialises in natural and Afro-textured hair?”

  • “Barber in Camden that can do a skin fade on a Sunday?”

  • “Bridal hair stylist in Nashville who comes to the venue?”

Where answers about hair salons can come from

AI assistants search the web before answering, and cite what they read. These sites list or review hair salons and are among the pages those answers can draw on. Which ones the answers in your town actually cite differs by place and engine; a scan shows yours.

Fixes for hair salons

No one outside the AI companies knows exactly how they choose names. These fixes put accurate, specific information where assistants read, which is the part you control. Mark up your site with the HairSalon schema type (external site) as well; our guide to LocalBusiness schema in plain English shows how.

  1. Name each specialism on its own line

Curly cuts, colour correction, Afro and textured hair, extensions, fades, bridal: list the services by the words clients use, with a sentence each, on your site and on your booking profile.

  2. Publish a price list as text

'How much is balayage in…' is a common question. A text price list (from-prices are fine) lets an assistant answer it with your salon in the answer.

  3. Make your booking profiles match your site

Salons often appear on two or three booking platforms under slightly different names. Use one name, one address and one phone number everywhere, the same as your Google Business Profile.

  4. Give stylists a line each

Many clients follow a stylist. A short line per stylist with their specialism helps an assistant answer 'who's good at…' questions with your salon.

Hair salons: questions and answers

Our booking platform has hundreds of reviews. Is that enough?

It helps, because assistants can read booking-platform pages. But your own site and Google Business Profile should say the same things, especially your specialisms, so every source an assistant reads points the same way.

Why does AI recommend salons that don't do the service I'm known for?

Usually because those salons describe the service in text and you don't. Add the service by the name clients search for, and check the next run to see whether the answers change.

Do barbers and salons need different pages?

If you do both, yes: 'barber' and 'hair salon' questions come from different clients. A clear page for each, and the right category on each listing, avoids being missed by both.

Does the HairSalon schema type matter?

It won't make an assistant recommend you, but it states your name, address, hours and type unambiguously. It's a small, one-off job worth doing correctly.
